Events/Speaking
Come out to the Sydney Writers' Festival 2010 to listen to Rick and Bruce speak.
May 20th at 2:30pm The Toxic Stew of Everyday Life
Canadians Rick Smith and Bruce Lourie used their own bodies as laboratories, ingesting and inhaling the chemical agents that lurk in everyday household products. They lived to tell their story in their bestseller 'Slow Death By Rubber Duck'. Now they tell Anton Enus how unsafe we are even in our own homes.
Location: Sydney Theatre at Walsh Bay 22 Hickson Road Walsh Bay
May 22nd at 1:00pm Too Late to Save?
Our financial system, our food, our climate. The very essence of life and society, each of them suffering perhaps irremediable stress. Bill McKibben (‘Eaarth’), Raj Patel (‘The Value of Nothing’), and Rick Smith and Bruce Lourie (‘Slow Death by Rubber Duck’) talk to Michael Sexton about the most critical question of our time.
Location: Sydney Dance Company, Studio 2/3 Pier 4/5, Hickson Road Walsh Bay
May 22nd at 4pm Extreme Journalisim
Some journalists will go to any lengths to get the story, including enduring hazardous situations to bring out the truth. Danish journalist Lone Frank, author of ‘Mindfield’, underwent brain experiments to see where science is going, while Rick Smith and Bruce Lourie, authors of ‘Slow Death by Rubber Duck’, exposed themselves to massive doses of the toxins that surround us in daily life. Chair: Sally Warhaft.
Location: Wharf 2, Sydney Theatre Company Pier 4/5, Hickson Road Walsh Bay
